4. "Redneck" originally got it's place in our language during the
Harlan coal mining fights. That is also where the infamous Hatfield and McCoy Feud began. The miners tried to strike and the mine owners brought in hired police to keep the miners in their place. The miners wore red bandanas to identify themselves against the hired cops of the mines. They were called rednecks and many were killed just for wanting a fair and decent wage and tolerable hours. I believe the head of the miners was a Hatfield and the head of the Police was a McCoy..
