from a Latin American country, we've just f#cked those people over.
We had a big spike of Central American immigrants here during our dirty, illegal war against Nicaragua and El Salvador in the 80s, for example.
Those people WANT to stay home. Most of them don't WANT to come here. We level their homes and we give them no choice. And then, once they make it here somehow, we vilify them. It's shameful, really.
I've known many of these people. Only a very few wanted to come here in the first place. They've filled my ear with stories of their home, their family, their places. It's very sad to me.
