34. The Jasper Texas victim James Byrd and Gov. G.W. Bu$h
James Byrd, Jr., was dragged behind a pickup truck in 1998 by Shawn Allen Berry, Lawrence Russell Brewer, and John William King. James Byrd, an African American man was murdered by these white men. This was a murder fueled by East Texas nitro: liquor and racial hatred.

All of Texas needed a healing, but citing a prior commitment, Gov. Bush declined to appear at Byrd's funeral. James Byrd's sister appealed to then-governor George W. Bu$h to support a hate crimes bill. Bu$h refused .. TO HER FACE!

Ironically, after Governor Rick "Goodhair" Perry ("Goodhair": thank you Molly Ivins!) inherited the rest of George W. Bush's unexpired term, the 77th Texas Legislature passed the James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act on May 11, 2001. By then, the "compassionate conservative" George W. Bu$h was the President of the United States. It has gone downhill from there.
