You see, the media is not to be trusted, but we will swallow anything they say if it's about, oh, say, Nancy Pelosi. Or John Kerry right after the 2004 election.

I remember once pointing out that the Boston Herald was a right wing rag, and not to be trusted on the subject of Kerry when a report was presented here. I was told even a broken clock is right twice a day, but apparently only when the clock agrees with the reader.

The reverse could also be true, I suppose, that a publication becomes a "rag" when they're reporting on someone the reader DOES like.
