2. Well if the goal was to establish a permanent presence in Iraq
things have gone swimmingly. If the goal was to create another Saudi Arabia with cheap oil and a common purpose of enriching sheiks and keeping the needle in the US vein well greased...then it's not a success yet. All I can figure is that the unspoken reason for fighting such a long bloody was must be worth a lot more to the powers that be than the costs involved. Bush and Cheney keep saying they're happy with "progress in Iraq" and perhaps they are. Creating a divided country where the three factions distrust each other and need the US is probably a real boon to the neo cons and KBR, Carlisle Group etc.
