It's that they're mostly shallow ghouls who want their subjects to do all the work.
Not to mention the "sub-genius" disease they largely suffer from, by which I mean that journos tend to be pretty smart (writers 'n' all), but not *very* smart (a la Gore, Obama, et al), and so tend to develop irrational dislike of public figures who are smarter than they are and not shy about showing it.
It's one reason Bush clicked with 'em so well -- he made them feel like frakkin' geniuses. (And by that, I mean deliberately. Bush is not actually as stupid as he appears -- how could he be and have survived to adulthood -- but he plays the moron very convincingly.)
