Did you forget how this 110th Congress came to be? Where has that gotten us. As soon as someone is elected, the neocons come to them with a vial of anthrax with that electee's name engraved on it and on top of that, their entire life is exposed to the Machine. They are OWNED. Give them a nice bonus check and that vial and they get whatever the neocons (or whoever TPTB are) want.
We can't do a goddamned thing about with puny votes and positions they care not a wit about.
