29. "Solar and wind power cannot and will not replace fossil fuel."
With enough investment and cheap storage, they most certainly could replace 90% of our needs and the demand for oil would drop to a point where we could balance our needs without being held hostage by OPEC, commodities traders, terrorists, Big Oil, Republicans, or anyone else.

Why does it have to be "all or nothing" with your crowd? Solar (electric and thermal), wind, hydro, wave, biomass, pyrolysis, geothermal, coal to gas (while stripping out the mercury and other economically valuable pollutants), etc.... How many options across the spectrum of alternative energy need to be available before Big Oil, and their apologists, run out of excuses?

Getting off the foreign oil teat is a matter of national security. We can, we must and we will do it or our nation and the rest of the "developed" world will fall harder than did Rome - and the third world countries who live a subsistence lifestyle? They'll be laughing their asses off.
