it is very sad that windmills are killing birds, but it may be the least of the evils.
Solar power is still too expensive. Nuclear has the implications of waste management. And how many birds do you think get killed when their mountain home is destroyed in the hunt for coal? What habitats are destroyed as we drill for oil and natural gas? Corn ethanol is a joke, a scam agribusiness pulled on environmentalists - chopping down trees to plan corn is not the way to reduce our carbon footprint. And we can't ignore the perceived affect it is having on food prices world wide.
I do not think we are going to go back to not having power for our houses and automobiles. Such a thing would be either the cause of (or result of) a complete societal collapse and would be followed by (if not preceded by) a population decrease of apocalyptic proportions.
Wind may be our best option. We're just going to have to be smart about how we handle it.
