English is lingua franca in today's world. HOW it is spoken or written is entirely dependent upon WHO is speaking or writing it.

I once tried to do a crossword puzzle in an Indian paper I found on a plane. :crazy::freak::crazy: (Mind you, M-W NYT offerings are 15 minute affairs. Th-weekend are another story.) It was an enlightening experience. The readers of that paper had references in English, IN COMMON, that I did not have as a native speaker.
