MARCH ON WASHINGTON!
On Election Day, voters nation-wide delivered an unmistakable MANDATE for PEACE. And now, it's time for ACTION!
On Saturday, Jan. 27th, people from every corner of the country will march on Washington, DC. Our message will be clear, our voice will be strong: End the war in Iraq, Bring all the troops home now!
Bush's announcement of plans to escalate the war is backfiring. It has opened a debate on the powers of Congress to block troop deployments, spurred more Republicans to jump ship, and moved more people inside and outside of Congress to debate the merits of continuing the war or ending it. The timing of the massive antiwar demonstration on January 27th could not be better. (For bus reservations and transportation information please click on the DC Bus - Jan 27 ticket in the left hand column)
On Monday, Jan. 29th, we will take our message directly to the new Congress in a lobby day. Congress has the power to end this war through legislation. National United for Peace and Justice is calling on people from every congressional district in the country to gather in Washington, DC -- to express support for those members of Congress who are prepared to take immediate action against the war; to pressure those who are hesitant to act; and to speak out against those who remain tied to a failed policy.
Even if you can't go, you can participate by helping students and others make the trip with a scholarship donation to: UJP, 55 Norfolk St., Cambridge MA 02139. Earmark for transportation fund.
