I was listening from the kitchen while making dinner, and then the phone rang, and so on...

My dad was a Machinist business rep. Almost overnight after Reagan took office, a successful contract negotiation went from one where he won increased wages/benefits to one where he didn't have to give up too many concessions - take-aways, they were called. It disheartened him, literally, taking one of those contracts to the membership and telling them it was the best they could hope to get. He was dead in three years.

Fuck. Ronald. Reagan.
