Reply #6: Over the years, I've developed my own safety kit: which includes:

--can of spray Lysol...as soon as I walk in the door of a room, I spray the bathroom --sink, toilet, etc as well as the phone and tv controls, any wooden chair arms
--strip off the bedcover. I carry my own "sleep sheets" a trick learned as a hosteler. I usually carry a queen, which I can fold over...it's sort of like a sleeping bag.
--carry my own towels
--carry my own paper cups in a plastic bag
--always bring flip flops so that if I do take a quick shower, my feet don't touch the tub

Cardinal rule: I don't think I've ever sat on a toilet in a public place...ever!
