182. But why are these seen as alternatives?
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 05:09 PM by LeftishBrit
I don't want people to die in Iraq or in any unnecessary war.

I don't want people to die from lack of health care, or poverty in their old age or in periods of hardship.

I don't want people to die from botched abortions.

I don't want women and minorities to be ground down mercilessly and without redress.

The point is *why should any of these need to be sacrificed to the others?* Are the only alternatives a vile warmongering monster like Bush, or a vile destroyer of basic human rights to survival with dignity like Paul? A murderer who bombs people versus a murderer who would starve people or allow them to die of curable diseases? If I really thought this, I would not be on this board, but would be encouraging Britain and Europe to break ties with America, and Americans with sense to emigrate before their own leaders drag them back into the stone age, one way or another. But I think no such thing!!! I think that the country that produced heroes from the Founding Fathers to FDR to Martin Luther King can produce something better than a choice between two such evil philosophies. All the current Democrats seem at least better than Bush or Paul - but if they are less than satisfactory, why not draft someone better: Barbara Boxer or Bernie Sanders or any one of a number of good, decent liberals? What America and the entire world need and deserve are leaders who are liberals in *all* respects and will not endorse right-wing policies in any shape or form.
