US: Iran halted weapons program in 2003
WASHINGTON - A new U.S. intelligence report concludes that Iran's nuclear weapons development program has been halted since the fall of 2003 because of international pressure a stark contrast to the conclusions U.S. spy agencies drew just two years ago.

White House hails findings of new NIE on Iran nukes
National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said the NIE confirms that we were right to be worried about Iran seeking to develop nuclear weapons. (He) interpreted the findings in the NIE, portions of which were declassified Monday, as a validation of Bushs Iran policy. The rhetoric between the U.S. and Iran has increased recently but the White House has maintained that is seeks diplomatic solutions between the two countries.
Thanks to MTA contributor Jerry B. for this reminder from just 39 days ago, October 25, at a time when the administration surely knew what was in the report: The Bush administration escalated its fight with Iran over its alleged nuclear ambitions and involvement in Iraq, imposing economic sanctions that triggered worries about possible military action.. And this is from October 17: Bush raises specter of 'WWIII' if Iran gets nuclear arms. I do sincerely hope this isnt a head fake, though. Remember how they strung us along on Iraq. I have a little bit of hope, though, since it appears that sane Republicans are now in charge at Defense and at National Intelligence.Caro
