Police have a legal (and moral) responsibility to see to the health and well-being of persons in their custody.
That responsibility demands that they take SPECIAL pains to look after persons who are behaving irrationally, for whatever reason. This is not some loony-liberal bleeding-heart wish, it is WELL-ESTABLISHED LAW.
And it's something every single "jail employee" deals with every single day. SUCCESSFULLY, for the most part....to the extent they TRY to fulfill their legal responsibilities.
