| Musharraf is a plummeting stone. The longer the US is tied to him, the more trouble we are in .... |
|
Look at who Musharraf is suppressing with his institution of 'emergency rule', or in other words 'martial law.' The backbone of a democracy is representational government and rule. Musharraf has expelled the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and surrounded the remaining justices with troops, appointing a new Chief Justice who will rule as Musharraf wants regarding his most recent election.
Over a thousand lawyers have been taken into custody.
The head of human rights has been arrested.
All the MSM outlets have been seized and taken off the air.
A new edict has been issued that anyone 'criticizing' Musharraf and his backers can be fined $70,000 and get up to 5 yrs imprisonment.
There is no way to stand behind democracy for the people of Pakistan and continue supporting Musharraf now. THe sooner we stand against Musharraf the greater the likelihood we will be able to work with the resulting government after Musharraf is gone.
ONE POSSIBLE SCENARIO IS: The Military will eventually step in to put down protests, and will depose Musharraf --and then 'appoint' another military strong man to start the whole process of moving toward democratic rule over at square one.
