... that no good at all came out of FDR's and LBJ's programs. Of course, a lot did. The main failure was the underestimation of the resentment white southerners would feel about black people receiving what they saw as a handout. That's been the biggest part of the 35+ year backlash that Bush and Rove are an intimate part of.

There were things wrong with the programs, but it doesn't mean those things can't be fixed. We're the can-do nation--except when it comes to eliminating poverty and discrimination

... for SOME reason.
