She is (was?) a true Repug and from what I can ascertain was deemed OK by tribal politics in the state. Lots of hot issues here between gaming and restoration of hunting/fishing territories/property rights suits from treaty interpretations etc.

Interesting choice for his August vacation schedule.

U.S. Attorney Alberto Gonzales coming to Harbor Springs

HARBOR SPRINGS — U.S. Attorney Alberto Gonzales will meet with leaders from the 12 Michigan federally recognized tribes Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians governmental headquarters in Harbor Springs.

Frank Ettawageshik, the chairman of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, would not comment on the visit or the meeting content.

Kaye Hooker, a media relations spokesperson for the attorney general confirmed that Gonzales will be meeting with the tribal leaders.

“I cannot comment on content. The information has not been released,” Hooker said.

Jeff Cobe, the Odawa chief law enforcement officer said the meetings will be closed followed by a press conference.
