What's with the misplaced local pride?

A few years ago, the entire Northeast was plunged in darkness because the nation's power grid was given away to corner cutting corporations. Bush didn't take time from his fundraisers to even comment. You may remember the little levees unpleasanness in NOLA - maybe. Forgive me if I see a connection here - and why the misplaced anger?
