He never said he was going to invade unilaterally... He said unilaterally if..... He is not talking about Islamasbad...he is talking about the Pakistani frontier. He clearly understands that Musharaf and even Musharaf-Bhutto if that evolves hands are tied. That the general is either unable or unwilling politically to take down the infrastructure in that section of Afghanistan. That makes him a weak ally and Bush a fool for believing Musharaf can help get OBL
His argument was well reasoned... polished....thought out and caveatted. You may disagree with his conclusions but you have to had your head in the sand (or up your arse) to not believe OBL/AQ are not a credible threat that needs to be dealt with somehow. The notion that he would go do something like that without substantial bipartisan support is incredulous and incredibly naive. Containment and centralization is not going to work.
I suppose those that abjectly dismiss that notion are also convinced of any number of tinfoil hatted ideas surrounding 9/11. Do you really think OBL/AW goes away if we just ignore him? We have been doing that for nearly 6 years and he is still a threat to our nation's security on our own shores and it has cost us dearly.
Obama notion is the modern equivalent of the Roosevelt maxim: "Walk softly (last week's Diplomacy dust-up with Hillary).. but be prepared to use the large stick you have .... if you need it. "
I understand the last seven years has made alot of you skittish and downright cranky in general about anything regarding the use of force.....No it is not pretty and perhaps there are better ways to deal with this threat. But sticking your head in the sand, stomping your feet like a two-year old having a tantrum....pretending the threats noted by Obama in his soeech.....(if you even read his speech) are not real ain't one of them.
Comparing Obama's statements to NeoCon rhetoric is laughable and adolescent bullshit of the highest order. To think that he would rush into anything without trying every other avenue is just plain juvenile.
You want to criticize his stand... fine but use substantive argument rather than creating preposterous straw-men that do not hold up to even the slightest wind.
Read the speech or watch it....but don't bludgeon him or his message without having the common courtesy of coming out of your myopic Chicken little world view for the 20 minutes of hard work it would take.
