So their tragedies -- things that happen to people they identify with (usually, other affluent suburbanites) -- get the lion's share of their attention. The stories they tell are their own stories almost exclusively.

And on questions of policy and politics, corporate elites use our airwaves to ram their preferences and priorities down our throats, while systematically marginalizing and excluding other views -- even when a majority of Americans happen to hold those marginalized views. The handling of the illegal alien issue is a prime example of this.

All of which is a good argument for bringing some democracy back to the public airwaves; the broadcast spectrum, after all, belongs to all of us. Why should such a tiny percentage of the population get to do all the talking? There has GOT to be a fairer way to do this.
