A woman who is going to banner with me in our "Poor Folk For Edwards" campaign, had a friend she knew would want to join us. Unfortunately, that friend died suddenly on Tuesday night. Here is her story:
She used to live in a huge and very expensive house in the beautiful mountains of Colorado (not in the city.... they lived in the country)
She had everything and her home was "decorated" to the hilt. She dressed expensively, drove a Mercedez, ate expensively. She couldn't understand how people could be so lazy as to be poor or homeless.
Then her life changed. Her husband divorced her, and having lots of money, he could get legal support to take everything from her. She was left destitute. She ended up living in a ramshackle old trailer with no heat, and very little to eat. She started understanding, then.
The woman I met took this woman to a food bank and showed her ways to survive. It took this downfall for her to "GET IT".
It's sad that she died. I think she would have become a very good advocate for poor folk, having seen both sides.
