that commercial was old, and cheezy...and sexist. of course it is.

May I also say something that my grandmother once told me.
She once said...and I remember exactly almost...
"I often wonder what my mother would think if she could have had all the conveniences that I have today. She worked so hard."
My grandmother went on to talk about how difficult it was to scrub clothes in a basin, hang dry, iron...boil water for clothes....
make her own soap, wash all dishes by hand, grow all your own food, make all your own clothes, make everything. for 10 people.
My great-grandmother died in 1950, after 63 years of working her ass off.

Now in 1959 or so, this same grandmother of mine went to college to finish an education degree
- with a husband, 4 daughters, and the college over two hours away (rural texas panhandle before good interstate roads)
My grandmother actually finished her student teaching in Canyon, with 3 daughters with her and the youngest with an aunt.
My grandfather would come every weekend to bring her supplies, bring the 3 year old, and also BRING THE LAUNDRY.

Now, I think my grandmother would have done all this without the washing machine, but you can't tell me it didn't help.

Oh, and my husband does his own laundry.

In fact, I think I will go start a load...and let it run while I do my homework. I'm back in college too.
I have time, since I'm not scrubbing clothes all day long.
