Why do the fanatics never consider that? Maybe He's providing an object lesson for the consequences of some terrible sin. With Bush it was pride, and laziness, especially intellectual laziness. With Palin, maybe vanity. And with both, dishonesty. And with the Republican party, stretching loyalty from a desirable virtue into a sin. Putting loyalty above truth, loyalty above rationality, loyalty above common sense, and putting loyalty to a person or a political party above loyalty to the nation, these are all sins. Aristotle taught us that virtue lies in the middle, the golden mean. Either extreme turns it into an evil.
