I agree with you that there are many, many other people who do far more important things. My point was that professional sports teams get an ungodly amount of money in subsidies based on the supposed revenue they bring to cities. Both the players' salaries and the profits of the owners come largely from those subsidies and the jobs they provide are mostly in the low-wage service sector. It's not the players who are the cause of that.
