There will be demostrations in the streets, maybe even a riot because of this sculpture.

This is the power that great art has.

Every so often a sculpture comes along that rocks not only the art world but society itself and how we relate one another as human beings...or for some as something less than human...

Edwards sculpure nails America with this sculpture. He nails us right to a cross of our own hypocrisy.

Pornography
Pop Culture
Pro-Life
Culture of Life
Choice
Consumerism
Capitalism
Mass Media Culture

Are all wrapped in this work....it is vulgar, lyrical, hilarious and beautiful in one amazing motion. It is a perfect icon for our times. Just as Warhol's Marilyns were for the sixties.

I can predict the opening of this showing in New York will be a huge event. Cops, protest groups will all be in the streets battling each other because of this sculpture.

This nation is ready to blow its fucking top and sometimes the catylst can come from such unlikely places.

I posted a little blurb about this sculpture on my blog last thursday. I have been getting a continuous stream of hits to the site as people from all over America and the world are trying get thier heads around this work of art. I've already claimed it is as important as Degas - The Little Dancer first displayed in 1881. Or Duchamp's - Fountain. Both scupture stretched the notion of what art is and what does it say to the viewer.

I'm mean I used to get maybe 10 hits a day...now it is getting pounded. That alone tells me that there is a firestorm gathering around this piece that will explode across this nation...

I love art. I love art that pisses people off and makes them laugh. I love artists. Without them how would we ever really learn anything about ourselves? We have become so extreme and self-abosrbed as a nation that we have let jackasses lead this nation to war and corporations drug us and pacify us with comfort and the warm distraction of television...and the tittilation of our pop stars.

One this is for sure...love or loathe this sculpture it will not be going away ever....art history has been made.

Dig it.
