He, during an election year, courageously voted no for war in Iraq. The moment he did that, his approval ratings shot up because Minnesotans respect principle rather than hyperbole. While the race itself was very close, his Iraq War Resolution vote would have returned his Senate seat back to him. The man, while he has alive had to deal with the most disgusting attack ads, one which equated him with communism. One ad had still photo of smiling while him holding a champaign flute. A billowing hammer and sickle flag could be seen behind him. It was disgusting.

Paul & Shelia Wellstone were truly wonderful and principled human beings. The world lost champions of social justice, equality and peace that snowy day in October. :cry:
