The accusation was most prominently made by the Simon Wiesenthal Center (and that meant many people took it seriously). They claimed

, and demanded an apology, but this left out (without even using an ellipsis) the part of the sentence " the descendants of those who expelled Bolivar from here and also those who in a certain way crucified him in Santa Marta, there in Colombia".
