163. Immensely sad
Rest in peace, James Kim.

They're both heroic to me, having done all they could to save their children and themselves -- Kati nursing their kids and James setting off on foot. While it would've been smart to also stay at the car, I can't fault him for trying to hike for help after so many days stranded. I've done some winter Forest Service road hiking in the mountainous Inland Pacific Northwest and it's treacherous territory, no matter how peaceful and pretty it looks; just a few mistakes and a lot can go wrong quickly. To me, it's amazing they had the fortitude and ingenuity to last the first week. From the info. at KATU it seems he traveled about 8 miles on his trek ... unbelievable, especially given the condition he must have been in the last few days. (There's a good search timeline and video at www.katu.com .)

Healing blessings to Kati and their friends and family.
