transference is a tactic in propaganda, where in one tries to link two different things in the viewer's mind to that they share similar connotations. Basicly the negative or positive feelings associated with thing A are linked so that those same feelings get associated (or transferred) to thing B. And these things dont' really have to be linked in reality (in fact, they usually aren't)

So The GOD and the GOP. Or Muslim Terrorists and the peace movement. Or heterosexual divorce and gay marriage.
