... or turn America into a fascist state. A democratic state must embrace (or at least tolerate) dissent in order to function. Modern conservatism brooks no dissent. As such, it is incompatible with our system of government, and while it was in complete power between 2002 and 2006, it moved us rapidly toward fascism (Unitary Executive, rubber-stamp Congress). We remain on the brink of fascism, but on November 7 the American people took a big step away from the abyss.

Free Republic is now incapable of taking that step with the American people. For it, only the abyss remains.
