19. A blanket pardon is doubtless on the table.
If you don't think Bush & his people recognize the potential for impeachment--or even imprisonment (maybe under the very "providing support for terrorists" laws he just pushed through)--then think again. They know that a Democratic Congress would investigate the Bushies relentlessly, and we all know they'd uncover plenty of crud. So you can bet the farm that there's a pardon all drafted and waiting in a red box on the wall: "In Emergency Break Glass."

The prospect of being held indefintely without trial should be enough to make a guy want to cut & run from "staying the course." And with any luck at all, it's scary enough to send a guy back to the bottle.

Bush 41 must be whipsawed between conflicting emotions about his Prodigal Son--willing to throw all his old pals behind saving the kid's ass (like the Baker Commission, which is clearly designed to give the kid a graceful way to exit his Iraq mess), but furious with how the Drunken Loser has demolished a half-century of the more authentic Conservatism that Baker and Bush 41 represented.
