..are pretty rich, and they're "tax-cut republicans." Trying to engage them in conversation is impossible. Once she literally put her fingers in her ears and said "I don't wanna talk about this." Their Bush tax-cuts paid for the addition to their house where they put the $150,000 piano that nobody plays.
She has a cousin (on the other side of her family) who is filthy rich, probably a one percenter. He's a dogmatic republican, anti big governement and such. All he cares about now are his golf vacations in Hawaii and his sports cars. Both families have kids who are spoiled and ambitionless.
None of these people cares about anything but themselves. It's really pretty sad, because "they're all so nice!" The niceness is actually a facade, a veil, and the pain they all endure is often salved by the latest toy or game on the market.
I'm poor, but happy. I can live with myself...
