964 African immigrants detained in five days

By Nasser Arrabyee, Correspondent

Sanaa: About 1,000 African immigrants, including women and children, were arrested on the eastern coasts of Yemen in the last five days, official sources said yesterday.

"A total of 964 African immigrants, including 155 women and 24 children, were arrested along the coast of Shabwa province while trying to enter Yemen illegally," said Brigadier Abdul Rahman Hanash, security director of Shabwa province, some 500km east of the capital Sanaa.

Deportation

The official said 774 Somalis were handed over to the UN-run refugee reception centre in Mayfaa where they receive some temporary assistance before being transferred to the permanent camp of Kharaz in Lahj province, 140km west of Aden harbour... http://gulfnews.com/region/Yemen/10073008.html
