3. Nobody sends me this SHIT more than twice.
The first time, I figure it's an oversight, a mistake, and everybody makes mistakes. I refer them to snopes.com and reject the sentiments in the mail in certain and unflattering terms. Most people do not repeat the mistake.

If someone does, it's no longer a mistake but the beginning of a bad habit. Their email is then blocked. No exceptions. If they need to get in touch with me, they can pick up the phone, send me snail mail, or even send a fax. Oddly enough, none of them has ever needed to do that. Once they know I've blocked the hate, they no longer have anything to say.

I realize this may be problematic in a work setting, but sometimes it's necessary there, too. If called on the carpet, just explain your inbox has been cluttered with unwanted political and religious solicitations and name the offender. It will stop.

Yes, this country has its share of assholes, and the disease of dumbfuckery seems to be contagious. The way to stop it is to recognize it's not yet universal and to stand firm against it.
