Christians scare the hell out of me

I'm not entirely sure yet what I should be more worried about, muslim fundies or christians, but I very much fear the latter. According to my admittedly limited knowledge of history it has been predominantly Christians who murder, torture and pillage others in the name of their supreme being or its alledged son.

The belief that a bearded guy created the world in 6 days some 5000 years ago, who is obviously so magnificantly powerful to have created all of nature in all of its splendor and vasteness, yet demands petty sacrifices and penances and total obedience of its subjects, threatens those who use their own mind with enternal confinement in a blazing camp - 1000 times worse than Auswitsch we are told -, is disgruntled his people are having too much fun and so decides to drown them all save one, which apparantly does not satisfy it enough so he creates a son whom he allows to be murdered in a most heinous fashion, and has a competitor bent on doing 'evil' but whom he apparantly cannot control himself, which is sort of odd considering he created everything by definition, and yet despite that pattern of unparalleled sadism and cruelty and violence we are told that the Christian God is a loving one, a forgiving one.
Well... to some it all up my opinion is that this set of beliefs is somewhat... odd....

You might argue what I presented here is a bit farcical or taken out of context, and you'd get no argument from me there. But where do you draw the line? The bible never says anywhere 'warning: from here on text is to be taken with a grain of salt'. Apparantly I'm not the only one who has this difficulty. Polls show a vast majority of Americans believe a supreme being exists who created it all, about 40 percent even believe in Satan and Hell and Damnation.

Thats rather cute, but what I find _really_ disturbing is that some 40% also belief that one cannot be moral WITHOUT religion. This implies that those who don't adhere to any religion cannot be moral, thus are anti social, thus are unwanted, thus aren't probably even humans and in cases where salvation fails are free to kill or do with whatever pleases. 40% believe that.

Generally speaking I respect someone else's private beliefs so long as they remain firmly locked up in that someone's head and doesn't interfere with my own life and starts telling me what to do and what to believe. Apparantly that is about to change. According to Sunsara Taylor in her article http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/051406G.shtml BattleCry is a new orginasation that calls for True Christians to take up arms and eradicate all heritics and agnostics, or even worse, -GASP- atheists.
Given that 40% of the population already have funny notions about the status of 'other' people, I find this very troubling.

No, a few religious lunatics in the Middle East with another Supreme Being don't really give me much cause of concern when viewed in the light that 100,000 Americans have some serious pathological belief system and are willing to murder those who stand in the way, and that probably 50 million more wouldn't overly much object if they had their way.

Some who read this might take offence to my rambling, but this probably will be one of the last I can produce before fearing for my life.
