7. It's an amusing poll, yes--but please do stop with this longing for a
"white knight" to save our democracy. We have to do that ourselves--we, the people. Patrick Fitzgerald is a brilliant and courageous man, no question about it--and he can provide inspiration to many, especially as to basic honesty and integrity in government, and public servants doing their jobs in the public interest. But he can only do so much. He is just one prosecutor.

WE have to act. And one of the things we can do is to fight for transparent, honest elections--in every state, in every county, in this country. Because we do NOT have transparent, honest elections now. That ended during the 2002-2004 period, when Bushite corporations gained control of our voting sytem with "TRADE SECRET," PROPRIETARY programming code and virtually no audit/recount controls, in the new electronic voting systems--as a result of the so-called "Help America Vote Act" (HAVA), a $4 billion electronic voting boondoggle, pushed through the Anthrax Congress by its two biggest crooks, Tom Delay and Bob Ney.

Hopeful signs - latest news:

California voters sue the state over Diebold:
www.VoterAction.org is suing the state of California and 18 Calif county registrars on behalf of 25 California voter/plaintiffs, on the illegal Diebold "certification" by Schwarzenegger appointee Bruce McPherson.

Seven of these counties just promised the judge they would use PAPER BALLOTS, and were dismissed from this lawsuit (4/27/06).

Congressional bills:

Russ Holt's HR 550 requires a real paper ballot, bans secret software in "voting machines", and has more than 170 co-sponsors, but the audit required is too weak, it promotes electronic voting and centralized power, and the secret software might be permitted to continue in the central tabulators (the bill is not clear). At lot of discussion at DU of the loopholes/pitfalls in HR 550:

(Note: Senate Bill-SB 330 and House-HR704 simply require a "voter verified paper audit trail" (VVPAT), which may be best for the moment.)
