17. The way I look at it :
He's a very skilled speaker who can reach all levels of people at the same time. He includes the simple, sound-bitey stuff as well as longer sentences with more complex arguments and points. There is plenty of simple, patriotic language that is understood by virtually all Americans. Even if some don't understand every part of it, they can tell by listening that this is a smart man who is sincere and capable of leading. In fact, even with the sound turned off you can see the sincerity--in his expressions and gestures.

I would venture to say that anyone would understand and trust Kerry if they were seeing him for the first time and had no other information to bias them. And that is exactly why the other side had to poison people's minds against him with all of those smears.
