Editorial: Kerry finally comes around

A Cap Times editorial, April 15, 2006

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry lost any opportunity to secure a political mandate in the 2004 presidential race when he signaled that he would not withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq. By blurring the differences between his views and those of President Bush, the Democrat took himself out of the competition.

Now he's back in the game with a plan to withdraw the troops by the end of the year. Kerry deserves credit for finally catching up with U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, who proposed an exit strategy last summer. But Kerry's new view also raises the obvious question: Where was he when we needed him?
