to believe someone is on their side?

Kerry was never going to be a grandstanding "LOOK AT ME! I'M WORKING FOR YOU" kind of guy. I expect him to quietly get results, as he always does.

He will generally do what he thinks is best, even if it is unpopular, and sometimes be wrong. I can't forgive him for that. Why can't others?

Why is it that so many seem to always see political calculation. I get so sick of hearing that, from BOTH sides.

But no. They want these people to do exactly what they want and exactly when they want it, or it's all no good. Is it just a basic mistrust of those in charge that is getting in the way?

I'm arguing too, but not getting anywhere really. Their cynical statement "We felt Kerry wanted exposure, so we gave it to him" just annoyed the crap out of me.
