2. I am disapponted in Biden and the others
There is simply no penalty for voting agains the Dem base. (Maybe that's because the Dems don't know who their base is anymore.)

I think the next four years are going to be very difficult ones for the Dems. This is a party in transition. Either we will go the more DLCish way and become a permanent minority party or we will rediscover a way to connect with low and middle income Americans and discover that the Party actually stands for something.

The political blogs don't help. The opinions are too mercurial and fleeting to really make a difference. One day people are screaming at Joe Leiberman because of his votes on Condiliar Rice and Torture Boy Gonzales and the next day they are sending him happy e-mails because he voted against the Bankruptcy Bill. There is no sense of actual outrage or permanence to this. (Imagine for a minute that you are in Leiberman's office reading these e-mails. What the hell do they mean? Do you respond or disregard? Is the political opinion generated from the leftwing blogs meaningful or just an indication that today's winds are blowing in, tomorrow's will probably blow out.)

Imagine being in Sen. Kerry's office and reading some of this weird stuff that posted on DU. I think the old idea of holding a daisy and slowing plucking off petals would be a better indicator of what the blog world feels than actually reading some of this stuff. ("They love me, they love me not, they love me....")

If I were Joe Biden, I would probably disregard this. So far, the grassroots have not effectively communicated anything meaningful. (Case in point: Sending flowers to Sen. Boxer. It was nice, but ahm, so what? The message of 'vote the way we want and you'll get flowers too' is hardly compelling.)
