ARLINGTON, Va. — The Marine Corps is now offering money to corporals and sergeants to stay with deployable units.
The Operating Force Extension Initiative, which went into effect Friday, offers eligible Marines $15,000 or $20,000 to extend their time in the Corps by 18 or 23 months respectively, a recent Corpswide message said.
Capt. Phillip Bonincontri, Corps compensation policy chief, said the initiative is intended to increase the number of deployable noncommissioned officers, specifically infantry squad leaders.
As with all bonuses, it is tax-free if taken downrange.
Eligible Marines must be in one of the following Primary Military Occupation Specialties: 0311, Infantry Rifleman; 0313, Light Armored Vehicle Crewman; 0331, Machine Gunner; 0341, Mortarman; 0351, Infantry Assaultman; and 0352, Antitank.
