KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — A military jury found a Stuttgart-based soldier guilty of trying to kill his ex-girlfriend, but the soldier’s sentencing was delayed Friday due to his defense attorney’s legal wrangling.
Sgt. Stevie Huff waited more than six hours Friday for the sentencing portion of his court-martial to fully get under way.
From roughly 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., lawyers argued about documents Huff’s defense had not received.
Looming over Huff was a maximum possible sentence of life in prison on his convictions of attempted premeditated murder and assault consummated by battery.
The sentencing phase resumed around 3:30 p.m. Friday and as of press time was still under way.
