I do think this decision would need to be unanimous in order to effect a change in policy here.
I was just hoping that posters will think of the potential consequences of political threads. Even if we all ignore the disruptors (and, this is a good idea, IMO), their posts will be here for all to read. Many of these types of posts have been downright nasty which makes them very unpleasant for the rest of us. And, some of their posts have been "cheerleading" posts, which can also have a negative impact on those who do not share the same level of enthusiasm for a particular candidate.
I think all of this has been very unfortunate. But, as I have said before, I am not surprised at what has happened.
