I started smelling something odd so I turned around. My server PC seemed to generate the smell.

I felt the case. Red-hot.

I powered off after hard-resetting to get into the BIOS setup - CPU temp? 85 degrees C :wow: . No warning alarm. No CPU auto-shutoff that I'd enabled the thing to do AT 85 degrees.

The power supply output fan was dead.

I found an 80mm Tornado fan I'd bought "for a rainy day:.

Installed it.

Rebooted.

CPU down to 46 degrees C.

One day I'll have to replace the power supply, but I need not today.

Vantec Tornado fans. Can be a lifesaver.

Cooldown time was 5 minutes. The power supply was still red-hot by the time I had the fan installed.
