When teen age boys wore Bermudas:
Advertisements [?]
AKA " I remember the evolution of Bermuda shorts on men."

This post got nada in the Lounge.
Maybe it's more suited to here?
;-)

I was born in 1941 and was in high school circa 1957.
Boys did not wear Bermudas at school.
Ever.
Neither did girls, for that matter.
(This was in Birmingham, Alabama.)
Just wasn't in our accepted (peer-approved-for-school) wardrobe.
Don't know that there was any 'official' school prohibition.
You just didn't.

A somewhat geeky friend of mine, not 'popular' amongst the rank-and-file students at all, was in a bicycle accident. Skinned up his knees and shins pretty badly.
Had bulky bandages.
His mom, a very practical woman, sent him to school in a pair of (HORRORS!) BERMUDA SHORTS.

Well, the world ceased turning on it's axis.
Traffic came to a complete halt.
As he innocently walked up to the building a HUGE crowd of kids gathered.
They taunted him unmercifully.
"Hey! What happened to your pants?"
"Aren't you old enough for long pants yet?"
"Did your mama dress you this morning?"

The vice-principal (our feared disciplinarian, the 'paddler') had to come out and escort him inside.
To the office.
His mother was called and told to come and fetch him.
He was 'causing a disturbance'.

We guys did begin to wear Bermudas in the summer, but initially with knee socks, a la British military.
We were very modest, way back.
;-)

We've come a long way since then.
Knee length shorts are an accepted part of school 'uniforms' now.
And so it goes.
:-)
