Mississippi Republicans are against interracial marriage
Advertisements [?]

Theres been a hot discussion at 365gay lately about whether gay marriage should be put on the ballot again in California in 2012.

Some readers have said yes, put it on the ballot, dont wait for the courts; others say that civil rights should never be put to a vote.

One reader, Aaron (thanks!), posted a link to this New York Daily News story about interracial marriage. The article notes that a March survey said 46 percent of Republican voters in Mississippi think that interracial marriage should be illegal 44 years after the Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia ruled that denying interracial marriages was unconstitutional.

Only 40 percent of those polled said the marriages should stay legal. Fourteen percent werent sure. For context: 76 percent of those polled labeled themselves very or somewhat conservative, and 68 percent of those polled were over 46.
