9. I don't know why they don't understand...
I am hetero. I get it. I got it right away without a lot of explanation too. It's easy. I don't get why others don't get it. This is a civil rights issue and a moral issue. There is no rational reason why marriage and all it's legalities should be denied anyone who wants to have it.

Some people just have to have it happen to them because otherwise, the level of empathy is just not there. You write so well, do you think writing your mom a letter about this would be helpful? Your brother, I guarantee, will someday look back on this conversation and realize what a hurtful little putz he was. It may take a decade or two but it will happen.
