Name me one college player who has played with multiple felony charges pending? Please. I can't think of one.
I love Auburn football, but I'll admit Cam was guilty and almost got caught red handed. I also admit 90% of college sports teams at that level all do it. I base that statement having run 3 years of Div 1 cross country and track and field in the 90s. It existed in track, and I know it existed in the big sports.
Cam and Auburn twisted the rules to their advantage and if was 'Bama who did this I would be pissed. I agree with you, the NCAA, SEC and the media turned a blind away b/c Cam gave NCAA football a massive surprise and impressive ratings boost that nobody but Cam and his dad knew would happen.
But I say again, pay for play and felony gun charges, robbery and the other charges brought up on these players is not the same and no coach would keep his job if he/she attempted to play anyone with multiple felony charges hanging over them.
Look at Duke lacrosse, did they play with those false allegations over them? I don't think they did.
I'll admit the Cam issue didn't impact me like most b/c I feel all college athletes should earn an income playing sports while in college if you are a scholarship athlete. You sign a 4 year letter of intent, then you have a job for four years and you get a salary. If you break the contract/scholarship and leave school early you must pay pack the entire worth of the contract (bonuses included). Bonuses are performance based (win the league, league conference, all-conference, all-american, all-academic, etc. A cap should be set at $55,000 a year. When schools can't pay for the player, the booster legally can. I know this is a minority view in the world.
